Speech Pathologist
Duties and Responsibilities:Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.Social communication disorders are also found individuals with other conditions, such as traumatic brain injury.
Salary:The median annual wage for speech-language pathologists is $74,680. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $47,070, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $116,810.
Education:Earn a Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology. Every state's speech therapist licensure requirements include a master's degree. A master's degree program in speech pathology introduces students to concepts such as voice articulation, phonology, literacy, and neurological substrates.
